Protein Guide

Protein type is one factor when comparing products. Merrimore's guide describes the protein source and the Treat and Chew products available in the range; it is not a food-allergy or veterinary diet assessment.

For dog owners in Hong Kong, protein choice may also relate to indoor living conditions and chewing behaviour.

    Jump to:

    Horse (Less Common Protein)

    Goat (Less Common Protein)

    Yak (Dairy-based)

Horse protein dog treats & chews

Horse is a less commonly used meat protein within many everyday dog-treat ranges. Merrimore's horse products include both quick Treat options and products with more chewing involvement.

    Consider when:

    • You want to explore a less common protein source
    • You want to compare Horse Treats with Horse Chews
    • Your dog accepts horse as part of its normal diet

Lamb dog treats & natural chews

Merrimore's Lamb range includes both quick Treats and firmer chewing products. Product form and texture therefore matter more than the protein name alone when deciding how the item will be used.

Goat protein dog chews (alternative protein)

Goat is another less commonly used protein source in the Merrimore range. The current goat products are firmer natural chews, so chewing behaviour and previous chew experience are important considerations.

    Consider when:

    • You want to explore a less common protein source
    • You want to compare Goat Chews by hardness and natural variation
    • Your dog's chewing style and previous chew experience have been considered

Yak chews (dairy-based, no meat protein)

Yak chews are dairy-based and contain no meat protein, offering a long-lasting chewing option outside typical meat sources. Choose appropriate size and supervise chewing sessions.

    Consider when:

    • You want to compare a dairy-based chew with meat-based products
    • Firmness and an appropriate size have been considered
    • You can supervise the complete chew session
